José Mourinho is reportedly furious with the situation surrounding Rodri, with the Real Madrid coach facing the possibility of missing out on the midfielder he wanted this summer.
Mourinho had requested another midfielder, but Real Madrid rejected several alternatives proposed by the Portuguese coach and instead prioritised a move for Rodri. With the transfer now in serious doubt, Mourinho could be left without the midfield reinforcement he had been hoping to add to his squad.
Softfootball understands that Barcelona have now submitted their first official proposal for Rodri after the Spanish international decided that he wants to join the Catalan club at the end of the summer.
The offer represents Barcelona’s opening attempt to reach an agreement with Manchester City for the midfielder, who would bring an end to a highly successful seven-year spell at the Etihad Stadium.
Barcelona’s initial proposal consists of a €45 million guaranteed fee, payable in three instalments, alongside €7 million in easily achievable bonuses and a further €3 million in more difficult add-ons.
The total package could therefore exceed €55 million if all conditions are met, with negotiations expected to continue as Barcelona look to secure one of the world’s leading midfielders.
