Chelsea star Cole Palmer has revealed he ignored advice from several people who urged him not to leave Manchester City for Chelsea, insisting the move to Stamford Bridge has transformed his life.

Softfootball notes that Palmer’s decision to leave the reigning Premier League champions for a reported £45 million has proved to be one of the best transfers in recent years, with the England international emerging as Chelsea’s standout performer.

The 22-year-old came through Manchester City’s academy and made his senior debut under Pep Guardiola in 2020. However, limited first-team opportunities prompted him to seek a fresh challenge.

Speaking to ITV via Standard.co.uk, Palmer reflected on the bold decision that changed the course of his career.

“How do I look back on leaving Man City? Yeah, it was a gamble because I didn’t know what I was going into, I didn’t know the club I was going into.

“I had people telling me, don’t go here, don’t go there. But I just decided what I wanted to do myself and did it.

“To move clubs, it changed my life. In many different ways, leaving Manchester where I grew up, getting away from people I didn’t need to be around. And the football as well obviously.”

Palmer enjoyed a sensational debut campaign with Chelsea, registering 27 goals and 15 assists in all competitions. He has also made a bright start to the current Premier League season, scoring six league goals, including a remarkable four-goal first-half display against Brighton. He also featured in both of England’s UEFA Nations League matches during the recent international break.
