Joao Pedro ends goal drought with derby winner as Chelsea beat Tottenham

Joao Pedro was the hero for Chelsea as they defeated Tottenham Hotspur 1-0 in the London derby as the Blues claimed into the premier league top four, Softfootball reports.

Chelsea lost at home 2-1 to newly promoted Sunderland last weekend and needed to bounce back to winning ways while Spurs had demolished Everton 3-0 at the Hill Dickinson Stadium and were hoping to continue their good form in front of their fans.

But the Blues are not exactly the type of opponents Spurs want on Halloween weekend as Chelsea had won five out of their last six visits and they surely made it count for the sixth time on Saturday evening.

Chelsea was delighted with the win that they shared a cheeky post on their official X handle about the victory.

The game was cagey and not many chances created throughout the encounter but Chelsea took initiative in the first half as current club player of the month Moises Caicedo robbed Micky van de Ven of the ball and played it into the path of Pedro and the Brazilian made no mistake with his finish. It was Pedro’s first goal after failing to score in six matches for Chelsea.

The FIFA Club World Cup champions pushed to get a second goal but Guglielmo Vicario in goal denied the Blues with fine saves. The game was not brilliant in terms of attacking play as both sides remained tactically cautious for 90 minutes.

Here are scenes from the end of the match as posted by Chelsea’s official X handle.

With the latest win, Chelsea moves into fourth position in the premier league with 17 points after 10 matches while Tottenham Hotspur remain third with same points but with a superior goals difference.
