Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi was once again influential as Fulham battled from behind to earn a 1-1 draw against Tottenham Hotspur in Sunday’s Premier League clash.
Softfootball understands that the Nigerian international provided his third league assist of the season, continuing his impressive campaign for Marco Silva’s side.
Iwobi set up Tom Cairney’s equaliser in the 67th minute after Tottenham had taken the lead nine minutes earlier through Brennan Johnson. The assist took the 28-year-old’s tally to three in 13 Premier League appearances this season.
Fellow Super Eagles defender Calvin Bassey also featured throughout the encounter, delivering another solid performance at the heart of Fulham’s defence. Iwobi, meanwhile, was substituted in the 86th minute after another industrious display in midfield.
Fulham’s task became more difficult with seven minutes remaining when goalscorer Cairney was shown a straight red card, forcing the visitors to play the closing stages with 10 men. Despite the numerical disadvantage, Silva’s men held firm to secure a valuable point in North London.
The result leaves Fulham 10th in the Premier League standings with 19 points, while Tottenham occupy seventh place with 20 points.
Elsewhere, Ruben Amorim celebrated his first Premier League home game as Manchester United manager with an emphatic 4-0 victory over Everton at Old Trafford. Marcus Rashford and Joshua Zirkzee both scored twice as the Red Devils climbed to ninth in the table.
At Stamford Bridge, Chelsea strengthened their position near the summit with a commanding 3-0 win over Aston Villa. Nicolas Jackson, Enzo Fernandez and Cole Palmer were all on target as the Blues moved into second place on 25 points.
