Inter Milan defender Denzel Dumfries has spoken up on his admiration for the Premier League and his hopes to play there one day as he makes comparison between Serie A and English clubs.

Denzel Dumfries is now in his fifth season as an Inter player. The Netherlands international joined the Nerazzurri from PSV in the summer of 2021, and since then has become an important player at the Serie A club.

Last season, the 29-year-old really found his best form for the Nerazzurri. He was among their top scorers, and put in a particularly outstanding performances across two legs against Barcelona in the Champions League. This even earned him a nomination for the Ballon d’Or.

The Inter wingback also scored for his country on Thursday’s World Cup qualifying match against Poland. His current contract with Inter runs until June 2028. Softfootball reported that the defender attracted the interest of several top European clubs including Manchester City and Aston Villa during the summer transfer window.

Now, according to Fabrizio Romano via his X handle, speaking to reporters ahead of his national team’s clash with Lithuania, Dumfries expressed his admiration for the Premier League and revealed his ambition to play there in the future. He also reflected on the contrasts between competing in Serie A and the English top flight. The post reads:

Denzel Dumfries: I play in Serie A and I’m comfortable at Inter, but I think I could do well in the Premier League too.

I’d definitely be interested. The Premier League is known for its intensity, while Serie A is one of the strongest leagues tactically.

The 29-year-old has very much cemented a starting place for himself for both club and country, and Dumfries showed exactly that in the first half of the World Cup qualifier against Poland.

A marauding full back who has energy to burn and is a constant menace down the right, Dumfries can be a real handful to mark, his performance against Poland on Thursday really sums up just how he likes to play.

Dumfries has already scored for Inter this season, bagging the opener against Udinese on Sunday, and the Dutchman proved yet again that he can be prolific both for his club and his country.
