Sevilla forward Kelechi Iheanacho is reportedly on the verge of completing a loan move to Championship club Middlesbrough.
The Nigeria international has been unable to establish himself as a regular starter since joining Sevilla as a free agent last summer and could now return to English football in search of more playing time.
According to Softfootball, transfer expert Ben Jacobs reported that Middlesbrough have beaten competition from Scottish Premiership champions Celtic to secure the striker’s services.
Iheanacho has failed to score in nine LaLiga appearances for Sevilla this season, although he has found the net three times in the Copa del Rey.
The 28-year-old is no stranger to the Championship, having helped Leicester City secure promotion to the Premier League last season before leaving the club.
His proposed move to Middlesbrough could provide an opportunity to regain his confidence and rediscover the form that made him a key player during his time in England.
Middlesbrough currently sit seventh in the Championship standings with 44 points from 29 matches and will hope Iheanacho can strengthen their push for promotion.
