Middlesbrough manager Michael Carrick has revealed that Kelechi Iheanacho is eager to make his debut for the Championship club following his January loan move from Sevilla.
The Nigeria international joined Middlesbrough on deadline day after enduring a difficult first half of the season in Spain.
Iheanacho moved to Sevilla as a free agent last summer but struggled to make an impact, failing to score in nine LaLiga appearances before securing a temporary switch to England.
Carrick, however, believes the 28-year-old has the experience and quality to make a difference for his new team.
Kels has experience and pedigree—he’s been well-known for a long time. He played against us last season at the Riverside, and while we managed to come out on top that day, he showed his quality,
Carrick said, according to the club’s official website.
He’s desperate to play, and he has a fantastic personality. Since arriving, he’s been great in training and has settled in well with the squad.
Carrick also highlighted Middlesbrough’s attacking options, admitting that competition for places will be strong but insisting the team can benefit from having greater depth.
We have a strong attacking lineup, and while not everyone can play at the same time, we can use that depth to our advantage.
Iheanacho will now hope to make his first appearance for Middlesbrough as he looks to rediscover his form and help the club achieve its ambitions for the remainder of the season.
