Former Nigeria international John Chukwudi Utaka is celebrating his 44th birthday today, Friday, January 9, 2026, with tributes pouring in from fans and the Super Eagles’ official X handle.
Utaka, fondly remembered for his pace, direct attacking style and commitment in the famous Nigeria number 7 shirt, enjoyed a long and respected career across Europe. Born on January 8, 1982, in Enugu, Nigeria, the former left winger stood at 1.82m and was known for his right-footed deliveries and work rate on the flank.

He represented Nigeria at multiple international tournaments and remains a respected figure in Nigerian football history. Utaka is also the elder brother of former Super Eagles striker Peter Utaka, making football a strong family legacy.
After retiring from professional football, Utaka transitioned into coaching and is currently working as a youth coach at Montpellier HSC, continuing to contribute to the game by developing the next generation of talent.
