Haaland Sends Norway Into Round Of 16 After Late Winner Against Ivory Coast

Erling Haaland fired Norway into the World Cup round of 16 after scoring a dramatic late winner against Ivory Coast, setting up a blockbuster knockout clash with Brazil, Softfootball reports.

The Manchester City striker, who was rested during Norway’s 4-1 defeat to France, continued his incredible international form by scoring his fifth World Cup goal in three matches.

Haaland is now just one goal behind Lionel Messi in the Golden Boot race and has extended his record of scoring in every competitive match for Norway since October 2024, a run that has produced 25 goals in 13 games.

Norway opened the scoring in the 39th minute when RB Leipzig winger Antonio Nusa produced a brilliant curled finish past Yahia Fofana. Ivory Coast responded after the break, with Manchester United winger Amad Diallo equalising in the 74th minute after a superb individual effort.

However, Haaland once again delivered when Norway needed him most, converting Patrick Berg’s pass from close range in the 86th minute to secure all three points.

Norway will now face Brazil at MetLife Stadium in the round of 16. They head into the match with confidence, having never lost to Brazil in four previous meetings, including a famous 2-1 World Cup victory over the Selecao in 1998.
