Manchester United legend Paul Scholes believes Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola will view Liverpool as a bigger Premier League title threat than Arsenal this season, Softfootball added.

The former England midfielder believes Liverpool’s squad is currently stronger than Arsenal’s and has been impressed by the Reds’ energy, quality and depth under new manager Arne Slot.

Speaking on Stick to Football by Sky Bet, Scholes pointed to Liverpool’s midfield as one of the key reasons they are genuine title contenders, praising their athleticism and ability to support an attack packed with quality.

According to Scholes, Liverpool’s strength in forward areas gives them an edge over Arsenal, noting that having several top-class attacking options reduces the burden on the midfield and makes the team more dangerous overall.

He also stressed that winning the Premier League requires beating direct title rivals, insisting Arsenal have fallen short in crucial moments over the past two seasons.

Scholes recalled Arsenal’s goalless draw at Manchester City last season, suggesting the Gunners should have been more ambitious if they truly wanted to dethrone Guardiola’s side.

The former midfielder also questioned Arsenal’s current form, claiming Mikel Arteta’s team has not looked as fluid as it did last season even before their recent disciplinary issues.

He added that the absence of captain Martin Ødegaard could prove a significant setback for Arsenal, particularly in high-profile fixtures such as their upcoming clash against Liverpool.

With Liverpool enjoying an impressive start under Slot, Scholes believes Guardiola will be paying closer attention to the Reds than any other title challenger.
