Ghana’s poor run in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers continued after the Black Stars were held to a 0-0 draw by Sudan at the Accra Sports Stadium on Thursday, softfootball reported.

The result means the four-time African champions are still without a win after their opening three matches in Group F, having recorded two draws and one defeat.

After three games, Ghana sit third in the group with two points. They are two points behind Sudan and four points behind leaders Angola, who are expected to face Niger on Friday, October 11.

The Black Stars started brightly and almost took the lead inside the opening five minutes when Alexander Djiku’s header from Mohammed Kudus’ cross struck the crossbar.

Ghana continued to create chances, with Ernest Nuamah firing just wide after a clever pass from Kudus. Antoine Semenyo also tested Sudan goalkeeper Mohamed Al Mustafa after breaking into the box.

Sudan defended strongly throughout the first half and managed to keep the score level going into the break.

Ghana increased the pressure in the second half as they searched for the opening goal. Semenyo failed to control Alidu Seidu’s cross in the 56th minute, allowing the Sudan goalkeeper to clear the danger. Kudus also forced Al Mustafa into a good save shortly after.

Sudan’s best chance came in the 72nd minute from a free-kick, but Ghana goalkeeper Lawrence Ati-Zigi reacted well to tip the effort behind.

The Black Stars had late opportunities to win the match. Inaki Williams fired across goal from a tight angle, while Kudus missed a huge chance from close range in the closing minutes.

Williams also wasted another big opportunity in stoppage time before Abdul Fatawu fired over from the rebound.

The result leaves Ghana under pressure as their hopes of qualifying for AFCON 2025 continue to hang in the balance.
