Former Chelsea Star Thiago Silva Sets Sights on Europe Return as Free Agent

2 Min Read

Thiago Silva is already mapping out the next step of his illustrious career, with the veteran defender prioritising a return to Europe once his current deal expires. The Brazilian centre-back, who has enjoyed a decorated spell across multiple leagues, is keen to continue playing at the highest level while also staying closer to his family, Softfootball reports.

Despite attracting interest from clubs in the Middle East and MLS, Silva’s preference is clear. At this stage of his career, lifestyle and proximity to family appear just as important as footballing ambition, and Europe ticks both boxes for the former Chelsea captain.

According to Fabrizio Romano via his official X handle, Silva’s plan is already in motion, Romano posted:

Thiago Silva’s clear plan: move to Europe next as free agent, ahead of any other option in Middle East or MLS. He wants to get closer to his family and Europe is the clear priority. Deal on.

The former Chelsea defender was recently in action for Fluminense at the rebranded FIFA Club World Cup, a tournament that eventually ended in triumph for the Blues. Chelsea lifted the trophy after defeating Paris Saint-Germain in the final, further underlining their dominance on the global stage.

Silva also came up against his former club during the competition, as Fluminense faced Chelsea in the semi-finals. On that occasion, the Premier League side proved too strong, securing a 2-0 victory to book their place in the final, while Silva’s Fluminense bowed out with pride after a competitive showing.

Even at this stage of his career, Silva continues to command respect on and off the pitch, with his leadership and experience still highly valued. A return to Europe would offer him another chance to compete at the elite level, while closing the chapter on a career that has already seen him succeed in Brazil, Italy, France, England, and on the international stage with Brazil.
