Florentino Pérez has confirmed that elections will be held at Real Madrid, announcing his intention to run again alongside the current board to “defend the interests of the members.”
This comes after Florentino Pérez came under criticism from content creator Kombo with Real Madrid aiming to restore pride after a disappointing week when they host already-relegated Real Oviedo at the Santiago Bernabéu on Thursday 14th May 2026 in La Liga matchday 36.
Speaking in a recent interview posted on Club Official YouTube channel at Ciudad Real Madrid following a board meeting, Pérez dismissed speculation about his resignation and instead revealed plans to initiate a formal electoral process. He emphasized that the club remains member-owned, highlighting its structure as distinct from privately controlled teams.

He strongly denied rumors about his health, including claims that he is seriously ill, insisting he remains fully active in both his presidential duties and his role leading a major global infrastructure company.
The president began his speech by announcing the call for elections:
Thank you all for attending. I regret to inform you that I will not resign; instead, I have asked the Board to initiate the electoral process for the elections to the Board of Directors, in which the current Board of Directors will participate Why am I calling for elections? For a simple reason.
Since the year 2000, I have worked to ensure that the owners of Real Madrid are its members, unlike what happens in other clubs. At Real Madrid, there is no single owner; it belongs to the 100,000 members who form and are part of Real Madrid.

Reasons for the decision
I have made this decision because an absurd situation has been created, driven by campaigns aimed at generating a current of opinion against the interests of Real Madrid, and especially against me. They take advantage of the fact that we have had results that were not the best, but this is something we accept because in sports, you don’t always win. This has happened to us many times before, but they exploit these situations to attack me personally.

Pérez also issued a direct challenge to potential rivals, inviting anyone interested in leading the club to stand in the upcoming elections. He stated that such opposition would strengthen his resolve rather than intimidate him.
