Flick Slams VAR as Atlético Thrash Barcelona 4–0 in Copa Clash

Hansi Flick has voiced strong frustration following FC Barcelona’s heavy 4–0 defeat to Atlético Madrid in the Copa del Rey semi-final first leg. The German tactician insisted that the offside decision against Pau Víctor was incorrect after a lengthy seven-minute VAR review, Softfootball reports.

As highlighted by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano via his official x handle, Flick expressed visible frustration post-match after what he believed was a crucial turning point. The goal which could have shifted momentum, was ruled out for offside, compounding an already disastrous night for the Catalan side.

Atlético stormed into a commanding 4–0 halftime lead, with an Eric García own goal, a composed finish from Antoine Griezmann, a strike by Ademola Lookman, and a poacher’s effort from Julián Álvarez. Despite holding 66% possession and registering 14 shots, Barcelona managed just four on target and were repeatedly exposed on the counterattack. García was also sent off late in the encounter.

The defeat echoes memories of last season’s 4–1 loss to Real Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup final. It is believed that the unavailability, absence of three key players and Injuries to the likes of Marcus Rashford, Raphinha, and Pedri further weakened Barcelona.

Elsewhere, Arsenal have been dealt a blow with Kai Havertz sidelined through injury, adding intrigue to the broader European picture.
