Fernandes Hits Landmark Goal as 10-Man Manchester United Edge Chelsea in Old Trafford Clash

Manchester United came out on top in an intense 2-1 win over Chelsea at Old Trafford, a game that had everything from goals to red cards, and plenty of drama in the pouring rain.This win extends United’s unbeaten home run against Chelsea in the Premier League to 13 games, while also handing the Blues their first league defeat of the season, Softfootball reports

Chelsea came into has the heavy favorites, after losing 3-1 to Bayern Munich in the UCL on wednesday, but things didnt start as planned for them as the contest took a fiery turn just five minutes in when Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sánchez rushed off his line and clattered into Bryan Mbeumo, leaving referee Anthony Taylor with no choice but to show him a straight red.

That early setback for chelsea set the tone for the game, and United soon capitalize on this. Bruno Fernandes, just onside, reacted quickest to Patrick Dorgu’s mistimed header and guided the ball past Filip Jörgensen to score his 100th goal for the club.

Things got even worse for the visitors shortly before half-time. However, the Brazilian turned from hero to villain just before the break when he received a second yellow card, Also reducing United to 10 men at the break.


Chelsea slowly grew into the second half and thought they had found a way back when Wesley Fofana headed home, only for the flag to go up for offside. Their constant pressure finally paid off late on as Trevoh Chalobah rose highest to meet Reece James’ cross and pull one back, sparking a lot of nerves around Old Trafford. But United held firm in the closing stages, with Altay Bayındır and Manuel Ugarte making key interventions to keep the Blues at bay.
