Ex-Man United goalkeeper sold twice by the same Coach

Players change clubs for different reasons while some are lucky with their dream moves, some are forced out and a few are blocked from taking that desired step. Softfootball brings to light the unique case of former Manchester United goalkeeper, Matej Kovar.

According to German football transfer expert Florian Plettenberg, the goalkeeper is on the verge of joining Dutch champions PSV Eindhoven this summer. The report claims that Bayer Leverkusen and PSV have reached full agreement for a few of €5m + €2m in bonuses, with a sell-on clause included.

The deal effectively means that PSV has dropped their interest for Bayern Munich’s Daniel Peretz. The player will now stay with the Bavarians or seek for a move to another club in this window or January.

For Kovar, it is interesting because he was sold by former Manchester United manager, Erik Ten Hag when they were both at the club. It was the Dutch that sold the Goalkeeper to Bayer Leverkusen.

At the time, it was a huge surprise especially for Manchester United fans because Kovar had enjoyed a great preseason under Ten Hag after returning from a successful loan where he won the league with Sparta Prague.

Apparently, Ten Hag wasn’t too impressed as he sanctioned a £50 million move for Andre Onana from Inter Milan while letting Kovar leave for Bayer Leverkusen in 2023.

Unfortunately, Ten Hag was also sacked by Manchester United following some very poor performances. Interestingly, Ten Hag was appointed manager of Bayer Leverkusen this summer following the departure of Xabi Alonso to Real Madrid.

And without any hesitation, the Dutch sanctioned the sale of Kovar for the second time in two years for different clubs.

In a previous post, Softfootball, revealed There is currently a tussle in Europe for the signature of Leicester City’s defensive midfielder Wilfred Ndidi, as Manchester United and Everton are leading the chase for the 28-year-old Nigerian.

Where Ndidi will be playing next season is uncertain, but one thing is sure: he won’t be playing in the Championship with Leicester City if everything goes according to plan.

For Manchester United, they will be happy for some arrival news as they aim to strengthen the club further ahead of the new campaign, while Everton will be looking to add a powerhouse like Ndidi to their rank
