Ex-Chelsea star Filipe Luis extends Flamengo contract until December 2027

Former Chelsea defender, Filipe Luis has extended his contract as Coach of Brazilian side, Flamengo until December 2027, Softfootball understands.

The left-wing star has enjoyed a brilliant coaching career so far and was the coach when Flamengo participated at the FIFA Club World Cup last summer. Flamengo also denied reports linking them with Gabriel Jesus. The Arsenal striker was rumoured to be on his way to the Brazilian team but the reports weren’t true.

According to football transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano via his official X handle, he reported that the Coach will continue with Flamengo amid strong links with a possible move to Europe. He revealed:

Filipe Luis backed Manchester City to win the premier league in a recent interview as he is a huge fan of Pep Guardiola and the way he sets up his teams. He generally likes the way the Cityzens play.

Filipe Luis retired as a player in late 2023, moved to U17s in Jan 2024, U20s in June 2024 (winning Intercontinental Cup), and promoted to the senior team by September 2024.

As a Coach, he tactical Style likes a flexible system, often a 4-2-3-1 or 4-4-2, focusing on quick attacks, high pressing, midfield dominance, and efficient wing play. He won three major titles within his first few months with the senior squad: Copa do Brasil, Supercopa do Brasil, and the Carioca Championship (Rio State League).

Filipe Luis has also led Flamengo to a Copa Libertadores title in 2025, becoming one of the few to win it as both player and manager.
