Everton Make Bold Move for Jack Grealish in Season-Long Loan Bid

Everton have made the first concrete move for Manchester City winger Jack Grealish, opening formal talks over a possible season-long loan. Sources close to Softfootball revealed that discussions between both clubs took place on Wednesday, August 6, 2025.

The Toffees are hoping to bring in the England international without an obligation to buy, and are open to covering a portion of his hefty wages believed to be around £300,000 per week.

While things are still at an early stage, the talks mark a significant step toward what would be one of the more surprising moves of the summer window.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed the development in a post on his official X account.

He tweeted:

“During talks today, Everton have asked Man City for Jack Grealish to join on straight loan – no discussions about buy option. #EFC willing to cover part of salary but talks still at early stages. Grealish’s camp also approached. More clubs keen and calling to be informed.”

Everton aren’t the only ones interested. Several other Premier League and European clubs have reportedly made contact with Grealish’s camp to register their interest or stay updated on his situation. But as of now, Everton are the first to make an official approach.

Grealish, 29, has found game time hard to come by under Pep Guardiola, having made just one Premier League start last season. He was left out of the Club World Cup squad entirely and didn’t feature in the FA Cup final defeat to Crystal Palace.

Understandably, he’s now seeking more regular football to boost his chances of being part of England’s squad for the 2026 World Cup under manager Thomas Tuchel.

Sources close to the player say he’s been training privately with a personal fitness coach to stay sharp ahead of the new season, knowing full well that the next few months are crucial for his international ambitions.

Although Pep Guardiola hasn’t publicly ruled out keeping him at City, he hasn’t offered any assurances either. Grealish’s £100 million price tag and high wages have only added more complexity to the situation.

That’s why salary sharing is now a major focus in talks between Everton and City, with both sides trying to find a feasible financial compromise.

Charlotte FC from MLS and Tottenham Hotspur have also shown interest, meaning the race for Grealish could heat up in the final weeks of the transfer window.

Everton boss David Moyes is said to be a long-time admirer of Grealish’s creative flair and sees him as someone who could offer the Toffees a spark in the final third. If this deal goes through, it could be a statement of intent from Everton as they look to rebuild and rise again.

For now, it’s a waiting game. But with time still left in the window, this one could still gather serious momentum.
