Enzo Maresca has reportedly had a verbal argument with Pep Guardiola, with Softfootball gathering external reports suggesting tensions around the Manchester City succession plan. There had been rumours that Maresca would replace Guardiola, although Guardiola had not previously confirmed leaving Manchester City.
However, today Thursday 19th May 2026, Pep Guardiola confirmed he will be leaving Manchester City by the 2026 summer, having joined on 1 July 2016, with official statements expected soon.
Maresca has now emerged as the only major option contacted regarding the replacement. The deal in place indicates he is most likely to be offered a three-year contract at Manchester City.
