England continued their flawless start to FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign with a comfortable 2-0 win over Andorra at Villa Park. England had to show patience, with Andorra determined to frustrate them by sitting deep and defending in numbers. Making his debut for the Three Lions’ Elliot Anderson was a standout performer, dictating play with composure, while Noni Madueke brought attacking spark to the team.
The pair combined well to create early chances for Eberechi Eze, who was twice denied by brilliant defending. England eventually broke the deadlock in the 25th minute when Madueke’s cross deflected off Christian García and found its way into the net.
Despite going behind, Andorra remained compact, limiting England’s clear opportunities before the break. After the restart, Madueke again threatened, setting up Eze and Anderson for chances, only to see goalkeeper Iker Álvarez stand firm. At the other end, Ian Olivera sent an effort over as Andorra briefly looked more adventurous, but their resistance was undone when Reece James delivered a pinpoint cross that Declan Rice powered home with a header in the 67th minute.
