Ecuadorian Congress honours Moisés Caicedo for Global Achievements

Softfootball has gathered that Chelsea midfielder Moisés Caicedo has been officially honoured by the Ecuadorian National Assembly in recognition of his achievements in international football and his role in winning the FIFA Club World Cup.

The 22-year-old was presented with a formal distinction this week in Quito, celebrating both his rise as one of the country’s standout sporting exports and his contribution to Ecuador’s growing presence on the global football stage.

According to TNT Sports Football, shared on IG, the latest achievement of Chelsea’s midfielder.

The statement read as

“Moises Caicedo has just been honoured by the Ecuadorian congress for his services to international football and for winning the Club World Cup 🙌🏆”

Caicedo, who joined Chelsea in 2023 for a British record fee, played a key role in the Blues’ Club World Cup success earlier this year, anchoring the midfield in their historic triumph under manager Enzo Maresca. His dynamic performances, maturity on the ball, and relentless defensive work have made him a key figure for both club and country.

Speaking during the ceremony, members of the National Assembly praised Caicedo as a “symbol of Ecuadorian excellence” and lauded his journey from the streets of Santo Domingo to the pinnacle of world football.

The honour marks another high point in what has been a transformative 18 months for the midfielder. After a standout season at Brighton, Caicedo secured a high-profile move to Stamford Bridge, quickly becoming a core part of Chelsea’s midfield rebuild alongside Enzo Fernández.

Beyond his on-pitch impact, Caicedo has become a role model in Ecuador, frequently involved in community and youth development initiatives. His recognition by the country’s legislature signals his elevated status not just as a footballer, but as a national figure of pride and inspiration.

As Chelsea gears up for the new season, Caicedo will look to carry this momentum into both the Premier League and Ecuador’s 2026 World Cup qualification campaign, now with the backing of a grateful nation behind him. Chelsea begins their preseason games next Saturday, the 26th, against English side Sholing FC before facing Bayer Leverkusen and Milan in August.
