Nigerian football journalist Dr Ademola Victor has announced the massive reach and engagement he achieved while covering Nigerian football, especially the concluded 2026 WAFCON, which Cameroon triumphed.
On his official X handle, Dr Ademola Victor revealed that across all his social platforms he generated 100 million impressions and now has 1.4 million followers. He also expressed sadness that Nigeria did not make it to the World Cup.

“100 Million Impressions. 1.4 Million+ Followers. My Biggest WAFCON Lesson. Sad we couldn’t make the World Cup. The players wanted it, we all wanted it, but sadly, we fell short when it mattered most. Personally, this WAFCON generated over 100 million impressions across my platforms.
I now have over 1.4 million followers across my social platforms. But beyond the numbers, I’m proud that I used my platforms to promote Nigerian sports, amplify our athletes and tell our stories. I love grassroots and developmental sports, so I’ll be back next month supporting our U20 women’s national team ahead of the U20 World Cup.
I covered their qualifiers in person from start to finish, and I’ll continue supporting them online because I genuinely believe in these girls. For me, this is more than content. It is community service as a sports professional, lecturer and researcher.
I’m grateful to contribute, and even happier that my students can learn from the journey. I believe Nigerian sports can do better. Real sports development requires strategic planning, accountability and investment at every level.
It cannot be built by simply scapegoating those at the bottom when the system fails. For now, I need some rest. This month, it’s academics, research and teaching. I’ll be back. 🇳🇬”
