Cyriel Dessers has admitted Rangers were left devastated after suffering a dramatic 2-1 defeat to Manchester United in the UEFA Europa League, insisting the result was difficult to accept after such a spirited display, Softfootball reports.
The Nigerian striker came off the bench to score a late equaliser that briefly looked enough to earn Philippe Clement’s side a valuable point at Old Trafford. However, Bruno Fernandes struck moments later to hand the Red Devils all three points.
Speaking after the match, Dessers praised his teammates for their determination, especially with several first-team players unavailable through injury. He highlighted the courage shown by younger squad members who stepped up under pressure against one of Europe’s biggest clubs.
Despite the painful defeat, the 30-year-old believes Rangers have plenty to build on heading into their final league phase fixture against Union Saint-Gilloise. He stressed that the team defended well for long spells and remains confident of securing qualification for the knockout rounds.
Rangers are still in a favourable position in the standings, and Dessers is optimistic the team can finish the group strongly with a positive result at Ibrox.
