Cyriel Dessers is doubtful for the remainder of the 2025 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament ongoing in Morocco after he sustained an injury, Softfootball reports.
The Panathinaikos forward did not play any part as Nigeria beat Uganda 3-1 to seal top spot in Group C with nine points, scoring eight goals and conceding four and qualifying for the round of 16 where they may face the likes of Ivory Coast, Cameroon or Mozambique on Monday January 5.

On Wednesday, the Super Eagles via their official X handle, released a short statement that the player will require scan on his thigh injury. They posted:
Cyriel Dessers has a thigh problem. He is scheduled for a scan today.

Nigeria’s 2-1 win over Tanzania kicked off the Super Eagles good run of the 2025 AFCON tournament and unfortunately for Dessers he may have to watch the rest of the competition from the treatment room.
The 31-year-old joined Panathinaikos in September 2025 after scoring 34 goals in 73 appearances across all competitions for Scottish giants Rangers. He also had successful spells at Heracles Almelo, Feyenoord and NAC Breda.
