Cyriel Dessers has admitted he could consider leaving Rangers as he looks to secure regular first-team football. The Nigerian striker has found himself behind Hamza Igamane in the pecking order this season, limiting his opportunities despite making several appearances for the Scottish Premiership club.
The 30-year-old has started only 11 league matches this campaign and has recently been linked with moves to Serie A sides Cagliari and Empoli. Softfootball understands Dessers is willing to assess his future but remains hopeful of earning more playing time if he stays at Ibrox.
Speaking about his situation, Dessers said:
Last month, I lost my starting spot. The boy who is playing now is also a good striker. I try to support him because I want the team to win, but it is difficult.
He added:
I’m at a great club, but I’m 30 years old and want to play every week. Preferably at Rangers.
The striker acknowledged that the January transfer window can be difficult, but he expects discussions over his future if his role at Rangers does not improve.
