Cucurella can make you laugh from nothing — Badiashile on Chelsea’s team spirit

4 Min Read

Chelsea defender Benoit Badiashile has given fans a peek behind the scenes at Cobham and Stamford Bridge, revealing who the jokers, leaders, and quiet figures are within the Blues’ improving squad, Softfootball reports.

The Frenchman’s comments come as Chelsea continue their resurgence, following a 2-1 Premier League win over Liverpool before the international break sealed by a Moises Caicedo thunderbolt and a decisive strike from Estevão. The result marked another positive step for Enzo Maresca’s side, with the Italian boss recently describing Chelsea as a legendary and enormous club.

Speaking to Chelsea media, in an interview posted via the team’s official website, Badiashile opened up about daily life at Cobham, his teammates, and what surprised him most about the club, when asked various questions he said;

Who is the first person out on the pitch for training?
Most of the time it is Tosin [Adarabioyo] and Reece [James].

Who do you eat lunch with at Cobham?
All the French guys, usually Wesley [Fofana] and Malo [Gusto].

What is the first thing you do when you get home after training to switch off?
“Take my baby, my kid, who is 11 months old. Being a father is the best job in the world.”

Who do you sit with when you travel for away games?
“Most of the time I am alone, but when we are on the bus sometimes the French guys. But it depends, I sit with everyone to be honest.”

“Cucu [Marc Cucurella], there is no debate. This guy is just crazy, he can make you laugh from nothing.”

Who is the loudest member of the squad?
“Cucu as well, he’s just always talking.”

Which Chelsea player is most active on social media?
I would say Malo.

Which Chelsea player would you recommend for us to follow on social media?
To be honest a lot of my team-mates, but if I have to choose one, maybe Enzo [Fernandez].

Who do you sit with in the changing room on matchdays?
Malo, or sometimes Wesley.

Who is the first person you send a message to after a game?
My brother.

Which outfield player do you think would make the best goalkeeper?
Maybe Tosin or me because we are tall.

Which defender or midfielder would be the best striker?
I think Enzo.

What is one thing that has surprised you about Chelsea?
Maybe the winning mentality. Not so much surprised me, because I knew it would be like that when I came here, but it’s a lot bigger than I expected.

Badiashile’s answers capture the spirit of a united Chelsea camp , one built on friendship, laughter, and a growing sense of purpose under Maresca. With confidence returning and results improving, the Frenchman’s glimpse into life behind the scenes reflects a team rediscovering its rhythm both on and off the pitch.
