Rangers manager Philippe Clement has explained why Nigeria international Cyriel Dessers has recently been limited to a substitute role at the Scottish Premiership club.

Dessers has not started a match for the Light Blues since the end of November, with young striker Hamza Igamane moving ahead of him in the pecking order.

According to Softfootball, Clement believes Igamane’s impressive development has played a major role in Dessers’ reduced playing time.

The Rangers boss, however, praised Dessers for his attitude and his willingness to support his younger teammate despite losing his place in the starting lineup.Clement said:

Cyriel is working really hard. He’s a very good lad; he thinks collectively always,

The manager also revealed that Dessers has been helping Igamane improve by offering advice during training sessions and matches.

Clement added that Dessers showed no signs of frustration when he came off the bench in Rangers’ recent game, insisting that the striker remains committed to helping the team.

Dessers will now hope to regain his starting position as the season progresses.
