Manchester City’s 4-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur at the Etihad has put them level with an unwanted piece of history, becoming the first reigning top-flight champions to lose five consecutive games across all competitions since Chelsea back in March 1956.

Softfootball understands that James Maddison led the rout with a goal in the 13th minute followed by a second just seven minutes later to double the advantage.

Pedro Porro added a third in the 52nd minute before Brennan Johnson completed the scoreline deep into stoppage time in the 93rd minute.

It was a welcome response for Spurs, who arrived at the Etihad off the back of back-to-back defeats to Galatasaray and Ipswich Town in their previous two outings.

City’s attention now turns to the Champions League, where they face Feyenoord at home, before a demanding trip to Anfield to face Liverpool in the Premier League.
