Chelsea have had mixed results lately with a 2-2 draw against Newcastle and some inconsistent displays in league and cup competitions.

Villa, on the other hand, has one of the best forms, having won 10 consecutive matches across all competitions, so a win in this game could extend this remarkable streak and strengthen their position near the top of the league table.

Historically, Chelsea has slightly dominated their meetings with Aston Villa, including 3-0 win over Aston Villa back in the 2014/2015 season but recent encounters have been more competitive.

In their recent competitive matches, Aston Villa had the 2-1 away victory in the 2024/2025 season, showing they can challenge the Blues firmly anywhere and at any time.

Aston Villa Manager Unai Emery spoke ahead of the match in a pre-match interview which was shared on the club’s official X handle. He provided an update on his squad fitness saying,

We have the same players, We are training and we were playing last week, only adding Guessand after he left with his national team. Players who were injured are still injured. Other players are ready and hopefully tomorrow as well, in normal process to play.

He also gave his thoughts on his club’s performances so far,

In the process we have, being demanding and being consistent, my analysis depends on each moment. The season we did in the Champions League and getting to the quarter-finals was fantastic. In the league as well, how we again got sixth position was fantastic. My idea is try to improve everything and get new challenges, collectively and individually with the players. How we can create and build here a strong structure in our mentality, with the players, tactically and individually, trying to improve them and get their individual challenges, helping us as a team. We want to create and build emotions with our supporters, enjoy different moments. We want to enjoy how we shared with them a semi-final of the FA Cup last year, a quarter-final of the Champions League, two years ago a semi-final of the Conference League. They are moments that can help us to connect with our supporters and feel something together and have experiences like we did.

Players Liam Delao and Estavo are available again after recovering from recent injuries, thereby giving Chelsea more options. Romeo Lavia is out with a muscle while Cole Palmer has been confirmed fit to play 90 minutes after his injury recovery.

Aston Villa has had injury concerns earlier in the season with Pau Torres and Tyrone Mings who are faced with Calf and Hamstring issues respectively but overall the squad is stable enough for this game.

Possible Lineups

Chelsea (4-2-3-1)

Sánchez; Gusto, Fofana, Chalobah, Cucurella; Caicedo, James; Neto, Palmer, Garnacho; João Pedro.

Aston Villa (4-2-3-1)

Martínez; Konsa, Mings, Bogarde, Bailey; Tielemans, Ramsey; Rogers, Watkins, Rashford; Asensio.

Softfootball’s Prediction

This match involves a strong home side and one of the best in form teams in the Premier League. Aston Villa’s unbeaten streak makes them a serious threat against Chelsea who are hard to beat at Stamford Bridge. So, this game could end in a 1-1 draw for both sides.
