Chelsea have moved swiftly to secure João Pedro’s long-term future by opening talks over an improved contract following fresh interest from Arsenal and Barcelona.

Softfootball understands the Blues immediately initiated discussions with the Brazilian forward over a salary increase after both clubs indicated a willingness to bid in excess of £85 million.

The development comes after Chelsea had ruled out any possibility of João Pedro leaving this summer, despite Barcelona identifying him as a player admired by sporting director Deco.

The negotiations have resulted in an agreement over a new deal that will keep João Pedro at Stamford Bridge until 2033, reinforcing Chelsea’s commitment to one of the club’s most important attacking players.

Chelsea have consistently maintained that the 24-year-old is untouchable and not for sale at any price, making it clear they would not entertain offers regardless of the transfer fee proposed.

The new contract represents another strong statement from Chelsea as they continue to build Xabi Alonso’s project around key players they consider central to the club’s long-term future.
