Serie A duo Cagliari and Empoli are both keen to sign Rangers striker Cyriel Dessers this month, as the Nigeria international looks for a fresh path back into regular first-team football.

Dessers previously played in Serie A for Cremonese during the 2022/23 season, scoring six goals in 26 league appearances before a €5million move to Rangers followed Cremonese’s relegation.

Softfootball gathers that his opportunities at Ibrox have become limited in recent weeks, with Hamza Igamane’s emergence and Danilo’s return from injury pushing him further down the pecking order.

According to Sky Sport Italia, both Cagliari and Empoli are pushing to complete a deal this month, likely in the form of a loan with an option to buy included at the end of the season.

Neither club has gone public with a formal statement, though talks are said to be progressing steadily behind the scenes.

Despite his reduced role, Dessers has still managed to contribute 12 goals and four assists in 30 appearances across all competitions for Rangers this term, with his contract at the Scottish club running until May 2027.
