Rangers goalkeeper Jack Butland has reassured supporters that he is recovering well after suffering a serious internal bleed that required hospital treatment, with Softfootball understanding the experienced shot-stopper will miss the Old Firm clash against Celtic as he continues his recovery.

The former England international spent a night in hospital before being discharged on Wednesday morning, although the injury has ruled him out of one of Rangers’ biggest fixtures of the season.

Butland took to Instagram to clarify reports surrounding his condition and thanked fans for their messages of support while explaining the severity of the injury.

He wrote: “I really appreciate the messages, but it’s important the information is correct. I’ve suffered a significant bleed to my leg that needed hospital attention. Thankfully, that’s now under control and will lead to a full recovery, hopefully sooner rather than later.”

The 31-year-old admitted the timing of the setback was particularly frustrating but insisted his focus is now on making a full recovery and supporting his teammates from the sidelines.

He added: “Needless to say, it’s come at an awful time, and I was fully focused on helping us as a club. The most important thing now is supporting the lads and focusing on getting fit again.”
