The 36-year-old last played for Kuwaiti club Al-Yarmouk.

Rivers United head coach Finidi George said he would be willing to welcome Ideye to the club.

There is every likelihood that he’ll join us. He wants to give back, that’s the most important thing,

declared Finidi.

He has that hunger, we’ve seen Ahmed Musa, and if he’s willing to do that, I think we’ll welcome him.

The striker played for defunct Ocean Boys before moving abroad in 2006.

He has also featured for clubs in France, Ukraine, England, Greece and Switzerland during an accomplished career.

Ideye was part of Nigeria’s victorious squad at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations and also represented the country at the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

Should the deal be completed, his arrival is expected to add valuable experience, leadership and attacking quality to Rivers United as they continue their push for domestic success this season.
