Big Game Preview: Lazio, Roma set for Derby della Capitale on Sunday

Lazio and Roma rekindle their old rivalry that has existed since 1929 when they face-off for the Derby della Capitale on Sunday, Softfootball reports.

For these clubs it is all about bragging rights and the venue for this weekend’s game is the magnificent Stadio Olimpico in Rome.

Both sides last met in April this year in a game that finished 1-1 but Lazio have not started the season well heading into the 163rd Rome derby. The Biancocelesti lost to a Nemanja Matic’s inspired Sassuolo 1-0 just last week.

For Roma, after opening wins against Bologna and Pisa, the Giallorossi lost against Torino 1-0 in their last match before the derby.

However, Gian Gasperini’s Roma are the firm favourite to win this encounter but in derbies anything can happen.

Lazio are sweating over the fitness of Nicolo Rovella, Matias Vecino and striker Valentin Castellanos. But for the trio of Samuel Gigot (ankle), Patric (hamstring) and Manuel Lazzari (thigh) they’ve all been ruled out of the derby.

With Lazio battling with so many injuries, Maurizio Sarri could start the likes of Boulaye Dia and former Chelsea winger Pedro.

Roma shared a post via their official X handle of a training session ahead of the derby.

Roma are also battling with injuries Leon Bailey and Paulo Dybala ruling them out of the derby while Mario Hermoso is rated doubtful as he is still nursing calf as well as Brazilian wing-back Wesley, who is down with flu.

Evan Ferguson, who is on loan from Brighton can lead the attack for Roma. although he last time he scored for a club club was almost 11 months ago.
