Softfootball understands that Barcelona midfielder Fermín López has underlined the team’s belief and determination ahead of their highly anticipated Copa del Rey semi-final showdown with Atlético Madrid, insisting the squad is prepared to compete with the very best as they chase domestic silverware.
With a place in the final at stake, the encounter represents another key test in Barça’s season, and for López, who recently signed a new deal with the club until 2031, it also carries personal meaning as he continues to establish himself in the first team after rising through the club’s famed La Masia academy.

Following Barcelona’s 2-1 Copa del Rey victory against Albacete, speaking today in a video posted by the club via their official X account, the 22-year-old reflected on how far he has come representing Barcelona

He said:
For me, it’s a dream. Ever since I arrived at La Masia at a very young age, I had that dream of playing for the first team, of being here for many years. I think I’m achieving my goal and I’m very happy.
López also highlighted the influence of head coach Hansi Flick, crediting the German for helping him mature tactically and mentally. His performances this season suggest real growth, and he seems aware of it, even if he speaks about it quietly.
He added:
Hansi has helped me a lot. I have improved a lot with him and I’m performing at a good level. I’m very grateful for the trust.
Attention then turned to Atlético Madrid, a side known for their structure, discipline and edge. López didn’t pretend it would be easy. He described them as a very difficult team, a great opponent, but stressed that winning trophies means facing challenges head-on.

He explained:
If we want to win this cup, we have to play against the best. We hope to play a good semi-final, reach the final, and win it.I believe we will fight for every title and hopefully we can win them all.
For López, the aim is clear: keep improving, help the team, and give the fans something to celebrate.
