FC Barcelona have suffered another major setback after young midfielder Juan Hernández was ruled out for the rest of the season with a serious knee injury. The 18-year-old has been diagnosed with an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury, adding to the growing list of absentees at the club.
The injury happened during a training session with Barça Atlètic, the club’s reserve team. As confirmed by Fabrizio Romano on his official X handle, the situation is now official:
Fabrizio Romano reported;
Barcelona talent Juan Hernández has suffered ACL injury, club tests confirm.

Hernández had recently signed a new contract that runs until 2028 and had started training regularly with the first team under Hansi Flick. Softfootball understands that after surgery, he will need around nine to twelve months to recover, meaning he is unlikely to return until mid-2027.
This injury adds to Barcelona’s growing fitness problems. Earlier, teenage star Lamine Yamal was ruled out for the rest of the season after suffering a hamstring injury in the 1-0 win over Celta Vigo. His absence is a major blow as Barcelona push for the La Liga title, although there is hope he could return in time for the 2026 World Cup.
Despite the injury crisis, there was a rare positive moment for the club this week. Frenkie de Jong made history by becoming the Dutch player with the most appearances for Barcelona, reaching 293 games and passing club legend Phillip Cocu during a special night at Spotify Camp Nou.

Hernández will undergo surgery in the coming days as he begins a long recovery process. Barcelona now face the final six matches of the season, including El Clásico on May 10, without two of their brightest young stars.
