Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick has responded to the growing talk about Lionel Messi possibly coming back to the club. as reported by Fabrizio Romano via his official X account.
He said:
Hansi Flick on Messi’s return to Barça: Messi is the best player of the last ten years, if not more – I’ve always enjoyed watching him play. His contract ends in 2028, and my contract ends in 2027 so his coaching doesn’t depend on me
Flick believes Messi is the best player of the last decade and that he always enjoyed watching him even before joining Barcelona. The admiration in his tone was clear; he also added Messi’s deal with Inter Miami runs until 2028, while his own Barcelona contract ends in 2027. So, as he hinted lightly, the entire decision isn’t really in his hands.

Barcelona’s president also recently made it clear that a Messi return to Barcelona is not realistic, as reported by Softfootball, even though the star’s emotional moment at the newly renovated Spotify Camp Nou stirred up old memories for a lot of fans.
Messi’s quiet visit to Camp Nou earlier in November added even more heat to the rumour, and that tiny detail alone was enough to set imaginations running. With all that noise in the background, Flick was asked directly if he could picture himself coaching Messi at Barça. His answer came out honest, a bit playful, and quite respectful too.

Messi himself has said many times he wants to keep helping MLS grow, and he hasn’t shown any genuine signs of planning a full European return. For now, the idea of him coming back to Barcelona remains more emotional than realistic. Fans might keep dreaming a bit because that’s normal, but the situation on the ground still feels very different from the fantasy.
