Ronald Araujo has addressed the controversy surrounding his challenge on Phil Foden during the international friendly between England national football team and Uruguay national football team.
The match, which ended 1-1 at Wembley stadium as reported by Softfootball, generated significant discussion online, with fans and analysts debating both the challenge and Tuchel’s decisions.
Speaking in comments confirmed by Fabrizio Romano via his x handle, the FC Barcelona defender insisted there was no malicious intent behind the tackle, explaining that he was simply going for the ball.
Fabrizio posted:
Ronald Araujo: “I spoke to Phil Foden after the game, he told me it was all good… these are football things, things that happen on the pitch”. “I never wanted to do anything bad, I was going for the ball he knows and it’s all good. I’m happy he has no problems”.
The incident drew strong reactions, particularly from England head coach Thomas Tuchel, who was visibly frustrated after seeing his player go down following the heavy challenge. Pundits also suggested Araujo was fortunate to avoid a red card.

However, Araujo revealed that he spoke directly with Foden after the match, with both players agreeing that the situation was part of the game and that there were no hard feelings.
Uruguay now turn their attention to their next friendly against Algeria, while the incident continues to spark debate among supporters.
France also reinforced their status as one of the favourites for the 2026 World Cup with a 2–1 victory over Brazil in an international friendly on 26th March 2026.
