Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso has brushed aside concerns over the brief confrontation between Victor Boniface and Emiliano Buendia during his side’s 4-1 Bundesliga win over Eintracht Frankfurt.
The incident occurred in stoppage time after both substitutes appeared to get in each other’s way during an attacking move, with Boniface visibly frustrated before teammates stepped in to calm the situation. Softfootball understands Alonso has no intention of making the disagreement a major issue.
Speaking after the match, the Leverkusen boss explained that Boniface simply wanted to take the shot and described the incident as a normal occurrence in competitive football. Alonso said:
I spoke with Boni. He wanted to shoot, and these things happen. We don’t want to make something big out of something so small.
The Spanish coach added that the squad would quickly move on and refocus on upcoming fixtures without allowing the moment to become a distraction.
Boniface has enjoyed another productive campaign for the Bundesliga champions, contributing 10 goals in all competitions as Leverkusen continue their pursuit of domestic and European success.
