Alexander Isak returns to training with Newcastle after Liverpool bid of over £100m was rejected

Alexander Isak has returned to Newcastle training base after a period at former club Real Sociedad’s Zubieta centre. The striker was back at the club’s Benton facility on Monday morning after arriving back in the UK from Spain on Saturday afternoon.

The Swedish international did not travel with the rest of Newcastle’s squad on pre-season tour last month after informing the club hierarchy of his intention to pursue a move away this summer.

The 25-year-old was absent from the Magpies’s friendly fixtures in Singapore and South Korea due to a ‘minor thigh injury’, although it is understood the player chose not to travel in order to push through a transfer.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano via his X handle, he reported that Alexander Isak has returned to Newcastle following a training stint at Real Sociedad’s facilities last week. The striker’s future remains uncertain, with the The Magpies yet to entertain any  new offers for his departure.

He tweeted:

“Alexander Isak, back in Newcastle after training at Real Sociedad facilities last week.

“Future yet to be clarified for the striker as #NUFC have not opened doors for his exit as of now”.

Softfootball understands that Liverpool’s opening offer for Isak on Friday which was rejected by Newcastle was £110m plus add-ons. However, the total offer did not reach £120m. The Magpies do not want to sell, and value Isak at £150m.

Liverpool’s stance is that they are not inclined to bid again after the quick rebuttal to their first offer, but their interest in the player is ongoing. On Saturday morning, Newcastle made a £70m offer to RB Leipzig for Benjamin Sesko as they attempt to line up a replacement for Isak, should he leave.

Newcastle who will compete in the Champions League next season, have tried to tie Isak to an improved contract which would include a release clause next summer, and attempted to convince him to stay through his senior team-mates. The forward, however, has not changed his stance, which has been made clear to the club for some time.
