Super Eagles duo Ola Aina and Taiwo Awoniyi were in action as Nottingham Forest saw their three match winning streak come to an end with a 3-1 defeat to Newcastle United in Sunday’s Premier League clash.
Softfootball understands that Forest were aiming for a fourth consecutive league victory but failed to hold onto an early lead as Newcastle produced an impressive second-half comeback.
Aina completed the full 90 minutes for Forest, while Awoniyi was introduced late in the contest with just two minutes of normal time remaining.
The hosts made a dream start when Murillo fired them ahead in the 21st minute, raising hopes of another memorable result.
However, Newcastle responded strongly after the break, with Alexander Isak drawing the visitors level nine minutes into the second half.
Joelinton then put the Magpies ahead in the 72nd minute before Harvey Barnes wrapped up the victory with a third goal seven minutes from time.
Despite the defeat, Nottingham Forest remain in third place with 19 points after 11 matches, while Newcastle climbed to eighth on 18 points.
