Harry Maguire’s long-running legal battle in Greece has reached another dramatic chapter, with the defender found guilty following his retrial, Softfootball reports.
According to transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano on his official X handle, Maguire has been convicted of non-serious assault and handed a suspended 15-month sentence, reduced from the original 21 months imposed in the earlier ruling.
Fabrizio stated:
Harry Maguire’s retrial in Greece now at fifth attempt as he fights allegations of aggravated assault, resisting arrest, and attempted bribery. Maguire has been found guilty of non-serious assault and handed suspended 15-month sentence, reduced from original 21 months. Maguire is expected to launch an appeal and always said he did nothing wrong.

The 32-year-old, who has consistently maintained his innocence, was charged with non-serious assault, resisting arrest and attempted bribery stemming from an incident in Mykonos in August 2020.
Judges reduced his sentence to 15 months and 20 days and imposed a fine of €1,500 (£1,304). Maguire was found guilty on all three counts, though his legal team are expected to launch an immediate appeal.
The retrial marks the fifth legal attempt in the case, underscoring its complexity and the persistence of the proceedings. Maguire did not appear in court and is still expected to feature for Manchester United F.C. in their upcoming fixture against Newcastle United F.C..
His brother, Joe Maguire, was acquitted of attempted bribery, but the court upheld charges of aggravated assault and verbal abuse of police officers against him.
The incident occurred while Maguire was holidaying in Mykonos with his wife Fern, sister Daisy, brother Joe and friends. It was alleged that the group were waiting for transport back to their villa when two Albanian men approached Daisy.

Maguire claimed that his sister was injected with an unknown substance and began losing consciousness. He said he attempted to take her to hospital but was instead transported to a police station.
Maguire further alleged that he was beaten by uniformed officers and told his football career was over. Fearing he was caught in a potential kidnapping scenario, he reportedly attempted to flee before being apprehended.
Prosecutors claimed he assaulted police officers, resisted arrest and attempted to bribe officials, including allegedly stating, “Do you know who I am?”
Despite the legal uncertainty, discussions over Maguire’s future at Manchester United remain active. His current contract runs until June 2026 after a one-year option was triggered, but fresh negotiations are underway regarding a possible two-year extension structured as one guaranteed season plus an additional option.
The developments come just days after Manchester United produced one of their most dramatic performances in recent seasons, securing a 2–1 victory over Crystal Palace F.C. at Old Trafford.

Palace took an early lead through Maxence Lacroix, assisted by Brennan Johnson, inside four minutes. Bookings followed for Daichi Kamada and Diogo Dalot before the interval.
The turning point arrived in the second half when Lacroix was sent off in the 56th minute for conceding a penalty. Bruno Fernandes converted from the spot to equalise, before providing the assist for Benjamin Šeško to score the winner around the 65th minute. A late booking for Ayden Heaven did little to dampen celebrations as United saw out a crucial home victory.
With legal proceedings ongoing and contract talks continuing, Maguire’s immediate focus remains on football — even as his case in Greece moves toward yet another appeal stage.
