Manchester United continued their impressive run under caretaker manager Michael Carrick with a 2-0 victory over 10-man Tottenham Hotspur, making it four consecutive wins for the former midfielder since taking charge until the end of the season. It marks the first time United have achieved four straight wins since 2024 under Erik ten Hag, further highlighting Carrick’s bright start in the dugout, Softfootball reports.
The result keeps momentum firmly on United’s side, with growing belief among fans, former players and club legends — including Rio Ferdinand — that Carrick could be a long-term option if this remarkable run continues. While it is still early days, the future looks increasingly promising for Carrick and his rejuvenated Manchester United side.

Speaking via the club’s official X handle after the game, Carrick reflected in detail on the performance, the challenge of facing a team reduced to ten men, and how his players controlled the match to secure another important victory.
When it goes to 10 men, it’s always a tricky kind of situation really. I thought it was quite an open game in the first half, at times. We looked dangerous, right from the start of the game, which was really pleasing again. We had a few issues and I thought Tottenham played really good football in the first half and we had to solve a few things. Then going a goal up, against 10 men in the second half, we managed it really well. We were largely in control, always wanting a second goal to come along and, when it did, it put us in a really good position. It was nice to get players on the pitch, Tyler [Fletcher] coming on for his first game. All in all, it was a really positive day.
Carrick also highlighted the importance of Bryan’s goal, explaining how scoring first against ten men can shape the psychology of the match and help the team settle into better control of the game.
It was a big goal, against 10 men it can work in so many different ways. It’s more mind games than anything, you’ve almost got to think about we’re playing with 10 men as anything. Subconsciously, it’s a bit of a deep breath so the goal was a big one, to get in front. We managed particularly well in the second half and didn’t give them a lot of breaks or transitions. It’s not easy to do so credit to the lads.
The United boss then praised Bruno Fernandes for his leadership, versatility and continued influence on the team, stressing how important the Portuguese midfielder remains to the squad both on and off the pitch.
Listen, it’d take a long time to sum it up [his contribution here]. I think he’s offered the club so much in the time he’s been here, since he walked in the door. He played different roles today for us and ended up on the left. The second goal was from the left as we changed things around a little bit. He’s a team player, he gives so much to the group. He’s got big moments in him but we know the quality he has. He cares a lot for this football club and the team and that is clear to see.
