Softfootball understands that West Ham United manager Nuno Espírito Santo has made a statement loud and clear in the club’s fight to avoid Premier League relegation after West Ham completed the signing of Adama Traoré from Fulham.

The move reunites the 30-year-old Spaniard with Nuno, who is clearly convinced Traoré’s unique qualities could be exactly what the Hammers need to climb out of the bottom three.

Nuno, who previously worked with Traoré at Wolverhampton Wanderers between 2018 and 2021, has been chasing the winger for a few windows now. And it’s no surprise the pair enjoyed success at Molineux.

where Traoré’s sheer pace and power made him a nightmare for defenders. Speaking in a recent interview posted by West Ham United via their official X account today, Nuno stated that he knows the player inside out, and he isn’t shy about praising him.

He said:

Adama I know him very well I have worked with him for many years, and I know him, that’s why I said he is unique. There are not many players with his ability in 1 vs 1 situations, there are not many players with his speed, with his pace. I think he is going to give us many, many things that we need, the threats that he gives , the threat that he possesses and his energy, not only on the pitch but in the dressing room and on the training ground. He’s a special person to have around.

The manager believes Traoré will add something different, not just in attack but in morale. West Ham are desperate for confidence, currently inside the relegation zone, but two consecutive wins following their 2-1 defeat to Nottingham Forest have given some hope.

Traoré struggled for minutes at Fulham, so he’ll be hungry to show what he still has and maybe even remind Premier League fans why he was once one of the most feared wingers.

This is West Ham’s fourth big signing this January, showing the board’s trust in Nuno’s plan. Fans are buzzing ahead of Traoré’s possible debut against Chelsea on Saturday, hoping his raw speed and unpredictability can finally give the Hammers the spark they’ve been missing.
