Morocco have escalated the fallout from the chaotic AFCON 2025 final, announcing their intention to take the matter to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Switzerland if both CAF and FIFA fail to rule in their favour.
According to the Moroccan Football Federation, they have been advised by some stakeholders to allow the issue to die down. However, Morocco are insisting that they were unfairly treated and believe they should be awarded the AFCON trophy, following the controversial events that unfolded during the final against Senegal.

The final was marred by tension after Senegal briefly refused to continue the match following a late penalty decision awarded to Morocco. Although play eventually resumed—after intervention led by Sadio Mané. Morocco missed the penalty, and Senegal went on to secure a dramatic 1–0 victory.
Softfootball understands that while Morocco are pushing for drastic measures, it is highly unlikely CAF would strip Senegal of the title. Instead, if any sanctions are imposed, they may come in the form of disciplinary action such as a ban from future AFCON tournaments or World Cup competitions, though no official decision has been made.
Should Senegal face any form of suspension, it could reignite Nigeria’s World Cup qualification hopes. Nigeria, who previously lost to DR Congo on penalties during the qualifiers, have long been linked with speculation about returning to contention through administrative or disciplinary outcomes involving other nations.
As it stands, the situation remains unresolved. All eyes are now on CAF, FIFA, and potentially CAS, as African football waits to see how one of the most controversial AFCON finals in history will finally be judged.
