Morocco Beat Cameroon 2-0 to Reach AFCON Semi-Finals as Díaz Shines Again

Softfootball understands that Morocco’s Africa Cup of Nations journey keeps rolling on, and on a noisy night in Rabat, the hosts once again looked every bit like a team that knows where it’s heading.

Goals from Brahim Díaz and Ismael Saibari were enough to brush aside five-time champions Cameroon, sealing a 2–0 win and a place in the semi-finals. Following their recent 3-0 victory against Zambia and a 1-1 draw against Mali.

Inside the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium, the atmosphere was heavy, loud, and almost restless. Morocco fed off it straight away. They came out fast, moving the ball with intent and swinging early deliveries into Cameroon’s area. For a spell, it felt like the opening goal was coming any second.

Cameroon were under it, though Captain Nouhou Tolo dug deep, throwing himself into challenges and clearances to slow the momentum.

In the 26th minute, Morocco’s pressure finally cracked the door open. Ayoub El Kaabi won a header inside the box, nodding the ball downward, and Díaz was sharp enough to guide it past Devis Epassy. It was his fifth goal of the tournament, and it mattered. Big time.

Morocco nearly added another before the break. Abde Ezzalzouli whipped one just wide, El Kaabi followed with a similar effort, and Cameroon looked grateful the whistle came when it did. One goal down, but still breathing.

The second half told a slightly different story. Cameroon saw more of the ball and passed it around with patience, maybe too much patience. Bryan Mbeumo and Christian Kofane tried to spark something but never really caught fire. Nkoudou, off the bench, missed a clear chance, heading wide from six yards. That one hurt.

Morocco, though, stayed calm. They always looked on the sharper side going forward. Ezzalzouli glanced a header onto the roof of the net before making the moment that settled it. With 16 minutes left, his cross found Saibari, who took a touch, set himself, and smashed a left-footed finish into the far corner.

CAF shared a video of Saibari and his Morocco teammate celebrating via their official X account.

From there, Morocco managed the game smartly. The final whistle confirmed another unbeaten night, stretching their run to 22 matches. Next is either Nigeria or Algeria. A tough test is coming, sure, but this Morocco side looks ready for it.
