Bayern Confident of Keeping Upamecano Despite Transfer Interest

3 Min Read

Softfootball understands that Bayern Munich are trying to keep things professional around Dayot Upamecano’s contract situation, and publicly, there is no sense of panic. Inside the club, the mood is calm, even though the defender’s current deal runs out at the end of the 2025/26 season.

Sporting director Christoph Freund, as reported by Fabrizio Romano via his official X account, has made it known that discussions are still ongoing and described them as positive, even if they are taking longer than some fans would like.

He said:

Bayern director Freund on new deal for Upamecano: We’re having intensive and very constructive discussions. Upa feels very comfortable with us. We’re positive; it doesn’t matter if it happens a day earlier or later – what’s important for us is that it happens.

Upamecano, who recently spoke about speculations around his future, has quietly become one of Bayern’s most reliable performers this season. He looks settled, confident, and very much at home under Vincent Kompany’s system. His combination of physical strength and ball-playing ability has stood out, especially in big matches.

It’s the kind of form that naturally attracts attention, and unsurprisingly, Softfootball recently reported that Upamecano has been linked with a move to Real Madrid.

Still, Bayern feel they have reasons to be optimistic. Those around the club suggest Upamecano is comfortable in Munich, enjoys the dressing room atmosphere, and believes in the current project.

The defender has also hinted before that his future decision won’t be purely about money, which Bayern see as a good sign, though football contracts are rarely that simple.

There have been some bumps along the way. Reports of disagreements over salary expectations and signing bonuses have surfaced, and while nothing is confirmed, it’s clear Bayern want a deal that fits their long-term financial plans. They are not looking to break structure, even for a player of Upamecano’s importance.

For now, nothing is signed; talks continue, slowly, maybe too slow for some supporters. But Bayern seem willing to wait, believing that patience and the overall package will eventually convince Upamecano to stay.
