Karim Benzema Breaks Silence on Al-Ittihad Contract and Transfer Rumours

3 Min Read

Softfootball understands that Karim Benzema has finally addressed all the talk about his future at Al-Ittihad, confirming that no new contract has been signed, even though some reports suggested a two-year extension, as reported by sports expert Fabrizio Romano via his official X account.

He said:

Karim Benzema confirms he’s not signed a new deal at Al Ittihad despite the reports, as his current contract expires in June. I’m still under contract at Al Ittihad for the next six months. My focus remains on that, told L’Équipe.

Benzema made it clear he’s still under contract with the Saudi Pro League side until June 2026, and right now his focus is just on honoring that deal.

Even with all the speculation off the pitch, Benzema is still delivering on the pitch. At 37, he has been in fine form this season, recently scoring in Al-Ittihad’s recent 2-1 victory over Al-Nassr in the King’s Cup.

Benzema’s consistent performances have made him a hot target, with European clubs apparently keeping close tabs on him.

Benzema’s role at Al-Ittihad isn’t just about scoring. He’s a leader in the locker room and a big marketing figure for the club. That said, the team’s struggles in the Saudi Pro League have frustrated him.

There are reports that he won’t extend his stay unless there’s a proper long-term sporting project, which makes sense if he wants to compete for big trophies in the last years of his career.

He hasn’t ruled out a move back to Europe, leaving the door open for a possible return to Real Madrid. However, Lyon, his boyhood club, has shown interest, and Benfica under José Mourinho reportedly sees him as a key target for a free transfer in 2026.

A playing return to the Bernabéu looks unlikely anytime soon. For now, his focus is on finishing his current contract and figuring out the next step for his career.
