Chelsea’s Premier League run hit a bump on 25 January 2025 as they were defeated 3–1 at Manchester City in a competitive clash at the Etihad Stadium, Softfootball reports.
Noni Madueke gave Chelsea an early shock, scoring in the 3rd minute to put the visitors ahead. However, City gradually took control, exploiting Chelsea’s low possession and press resistance. Joško Gvardiol leveled the score in the 42nd minute with a composed finish, bringing the hosts back into the contest.
Erling Haaland then turned the match in City’s favor with a clinical strike in the 68th minute, before Phil Foden sealed the victory with a late goal in the 87th minute. City dominated possession (61%) and created more clear-cut opportunities, registering 15 shots with six on target, compared to Chelsea’s 11 attempts and four on target.
Chelsea struggled to maintain defensive shape against City’s fluid attacking play but showed resilience, committing fewer fouls (8) than their opponents (6). Despite the defeat, the Blues remain competitive in the league, though the result highlighted the challenges they face against top-tier opposition.
The win moves Manchester City further up the Premier League table, while Chelsea will need to regroup quickly for upcoming fixtures to maintain their campaign momentum.
