Chelsea delivered a statement of authority in the FA Cup third round on 11 January, sweeping aside League Two side Morecambe 5–0 at Stamford Bridge. Enzo Maresca rotated heavily but still watched his side produce a ruthless and professional performance, highlighted by braces from Tosin Adarabioyo and João Félix.
The breakthrough came in the 39th minute when Adarabioyo powered home a header from a set piece, setting the tone for a one-sided affair. Christopher Nkunku doubled the advantage shortly after the break, calmly finishing in the 50th minute to give Chelsea full control.
Adarabioyo struck again on 70 minutes with another clinical finish inside the area, sealing his unlikely but impressive brace from centre-back. Morecambe—penned back throughout the match—could do little to stem the tide as Chelsea continued to attack with freedom.
João Félix, introduced to add spark in the final stages, did exactly that. The Portuguese forward scored twice in the space of two minutes (75’ and 77’), the first a composed low finish and the second a sharp effort after drifting into space between the lines.
Maresca used the occasion to give minutes to youngsters and returning players, including Tyrique George, Roméo Lavia, and Marc Guiu, while Reece James made a welcome appearance before being substituted as a precaution.
The visitors struggled to impose themselves at any stage and registered no shots or meaningful attacking moments, reflecting Chelsea’s total domination.
The comprehensive win sends Chelsea into the fourth round with confidence restored and key attackers finding rhythm. For Morecambe, the result ends their FA Cup journey but provides valuable experience against elite opposition.
Chelsea now turn their attention back to league duties, buoyed by their most emphatic victory of the season.
